Organic Farming

Entering the 21st century, the world community began to realize the danger posed by the use of synthetic chemicals in agriculture. People increasingly discerning in choosing food that is safe for health and environmentally friendly. A healthy lifestyle with the slogan “Back to Nature” has become a new trend to leave the old life patterns that use non-natural chemicals, such as fertilizers, synthetic chemical pesticides and growth hormones in agricultural production. Healthy and nutritious food that can be produced with the new method, known as organic farming.

Indonesia has a wealth of tropical unique biological resources, abundance of sunlight, water and soil, as well as the culture of the people who respect nature, a very large potential for organic farming. The world market of organic agricultural products increased by 20% per year, therefore the development of organic agriculture should be prioritized on high-value crops to meet the needs of the domestic market and export.

The facts speak that organic food is very good for the environment. Conventional farming methods lead to soil erosion and the use of harmful pesticides, which will only disappear after centuries. Over time, the artificial pest control is increasingly ineffective so its use should be improved dosage or until another method is found. One of the advantages of organic food it can have a positive influence on the environment, as well as animals and humans that live in it.

Scheme for Acceptance Certificate of Origin

In 2015 the Ministry of Agriculture in this case OKPO (Organic Food Competent Authority) published the guidelines for acceptance of certificate of organic origin. This is in line with the Regulation of Permentan No. 64/Permentan/OT.140/5/2013 about Organic Farming System, any organic product that will enter Indonesia must be verified. SDS as an organic certification body with the scope of Fresh Plants and Plant Products as well as Processed Products is an institution that is mandated by the regulations to carry out the verification and certification of organic product coming from outside Indonesia (import).

Accreditation Scope of SDS

SDS has been accredited by the National Accreditation Committee (KAN) to the scope of Fresh Plants and Plant Products in 2012 with accreditation number LSPO-008-IDN. In 2013, a surveillance audit was conducted at the same time to extend the accreditation scope Processed Products. Once the audit completed, KAN decided that the SDS as competent organic certification body with the scope of Fresh Plants and Plant Products as well as Processed Products.
