Common Code for the Coffee Community (4C)

The Common Code for the Coffee Community (4C) is an entry-level standard created with contributions from representatives of companies, exporters, farmers and related stakeholders for the coffee sector with the spirit and purpose of improving productivity, efficiency and market access,

Conditions of workers and their families and protection of natural resources such as primary forests, water, soil, biodiversity and energy sources.

The openness of the program gives access to coffee producers, introduces them to market access and through continuous improvement schemes makes it possible for them to move on to other certification standards. The 4C standard itself was created for the long-term purpose of impacting the coffee sector for the better. Consisting of a Code of Conduct and a verification system, this entry-level standard contains economic, social and environmental principles for the production, processing and trade of sustainable green bean coffee (4C Compliant Coffee).
