Consumers are increasingly demanding that businesses demonstrate a genuine commitment to ethical sourcing of ingredients from biodiversity. UEBT directly certifies ingredients, providing an independent check that they are grown or collected in a way that complies with UEBT standards.

UEBT defines practices that respect people and biodiversity in the way materials from biodiversity are grown, collected, researched, processed and commercialized. The UEBT Standard is used to independently check that these practices are systematically applied.

UEBT certification is based on independent audits. Sustainable Development Services (SDS) is the audit body authorized to conduct UEBT certification audits. There are three types of certification such as (1) Ethical Sourcing System/ESS, (2) Ingredient Certification, and (3) UEBT/Rainforest Alliance Herbs & Spices.
