C.A.F.E. PRACTICES – STARBUCKS

C.A.F.E. (Coffee and Farmer Equity) Practices is a green bean coffee supply chain program developed by Starbucks in collaboration with Conservation International (CI) and SCS Global Services, Third-party Assessment and Certification Bodies.

The C.A.F.E. Practices Generic and Smallholder Scorecards include a standardized set of over 200 social, economic and environmental indicators. These standards cover every actor in a supply chain from farmer to consumer.

Starbucks Coffee Company initiated the C.A.F.E. Practices program to assess, recognize and reward producers for the coffee they have grown using responsible and sustainable methods. C.A.F.E. Practices aims to provide assurance that the source of the coffee supplied to Starbucks has been assessed against the criteria set out in the C.A.F.E. Practices standard in economic, social and environmental terms. Starbucks defines ‘sustainability’ as a model that is economically viable and contributes to the social and environmental needs of every actor in its supply chain from farmer to consumer.
